What does Brick Paving cost in Perth?

The Price Quoted Is the Price You Pay

Our pricing includes brick and concrete pavers, site preparation, base work, installation and clean-up. There are no separate materials and labour charges. The price you’re quoted is the price you pay.

    What affects the final cost:

    • Size of the area
    • Pattern choice, herringbone and French layouts need more cuts, adding time and cost
    • Removal of existing paving, if demolition is needed
    • Ground preparation required, which can vary significantly across Perth’s sandy soil

    Where Brick Paving Works Well

    Driveways

Brick handles vehicle load well with proper base preparation and drains better than exposed aggregate or plain concrete. It holds up in Perth’s heat without cracking like poured concrete can, and its colour and texture variation hides tyre marks and everyday dirt better than lighter tones. Pathways and Courtyards

Brick suits front entries, garden paths and courtyards, ageing well over time. Running bond and basket weave patterns work best for foot traffic; they’re simple to install and need fewer cuts than herringbone, keeping costs down on smaller areas.

    Alfresco and Entertaining Areas

Brick gives alfresco spaces a warm, grounded feel and pairs well with garden beds and outdoor kitchens. Some homeowners prefer travertine or porcelain for cooler underfoot comfort in summer, but brick remains a practical, durable option at the lower end of the price range.

    Pool Surrounds

Brick can work around pools, though lighter shades retain more heat than travertine, and slip resistance needs attention. Michael typically discusses the options with you during the quote; travertine is often recommended here, but the right choice depends on your garden palette and budget. Patterns and What They Mean for Your Job

Running Bond, Herringbone or Basket Weave

The pattern you choose affects both the look of the finished job and the installation time. Here’s what’s worth knowing before you commit.

    • Running bond (offset rows) is the most common pattern and the fastest to lay. It suits driveways, pathways and large open areas.
    • Herringbone, the zigzag pattern seen on many Perth driveways, creates a tight interlock that handles load and movement well. It involves more cuts, especially on edges and corners, so it costs more to install than running bond.
    • Basket weave gives a traditional feel and suits courtyards and foot-traffic areas, but it’s sensitive to the brick dimensions you choose.

For most driveways, herringbone at 45 or 90 degrees is worth the extra installation cost. Its interlock pattern distributes load more evenly, which matters if vehicles will be parked on the surface long-term.

    What’s Included in Every Job

    No Subcontracting, No Surprises

Perth Landscape Guys does not subcontract. Michael and the team handle the full job, from site preparation and excavation through to base compaction, paver installation and clean-up. Nothing gets passed to another crew.

Every job comes with a written quote upfront. If the scope changes once work is underway, you’ll be told before any extra work proceeds. Client reviews consistently mention the same thing: no surprises on the bill.

We’re also preferred installers for Fremantle Stone, Eco Stone and Remastone, buying materials directly from Perth’s main paver suppliers rather than through a middleman.

    Brick Paving FAQ

Clay brick pavers are fired at high temperatures and have a natural colour variation that tends to deepen over time. Concrete pavers are manufactured and come in a wider range of shapes, sizes, and colours, often at a similar price point. The right choice usually comes down to the look you’re after and how it sits alongside your home’s existing materials.

A standard driveway or courtyard job typically takes one to three days depending on size and ground conditions. Jobs that require demolition of existing paving, or areas with difficult ground prep, take longer. Michael gives a realistic timeframe during the quote, not an optimistic one.

Sealing isn’t mandatory but it does help maintain colour and makes cleaning easier, particularly on driveways exposed to vehicle oil or heavy foot traffic. Some clients seal after installation; others prefer to let the pavers weather naturally first. It’s worth discussing during the quote if it’s something you’re considering.

Poor base preparation is the main cause. If the roadbase layer isn’t compacted properly, or if drainage isn’t accounted for, pavers will shift and sink over time. Perth’s sandy soil can be forgiving in some ways but requires proper compaction regardless. This is why base work matters as much as the pavers themselves.

Sometimes, but it depends on the condition and height of the existing slab. In many cases, the cleaner approach is to remove it first. Michael assesses this during the on-site quote and gives you a straight answer on whether over-paving is viable or whether demolition is the better option.

Brick handles Perth summers well. It doesn’t expand and contract the way poured concrete does, which reduces cracking. Darker brick will absorb more heat, so if you’re doing a large area that gets full sun, it’s worth considering lighter tones or discussing alternatives like travertine. For shaded areas and driveways, brick is generally a solid choice year-round.
